Three airmen who died throughout a World Struggle II bombing raid have been accounted for, the Protection POW/MIA Accounting Company introduced Thursday. 

U.S. Military Air Forces 1st Lt. Charles W. McCook, 23, U.S. Military Air Forces 1st Lt. Henry J. Carlin, 27, and U.S. Military Air Forces Sgt. Sidney Burke, 22, have been finishing up a low-altitude bombing raid in Meiktila, Burma on August 3, 1943, the DPAA stated. 

The mission was carried out with a B-25C “Mitchell” bomber. McCook was the airplane’s pilot. Carlin was its navigator, and Burke was the armor-gunner. There have been three different males additionally aboard the airplane. B-25 bombers have been among the many most well-known American planes utilized in World Struggle II, based on the Nationwide Museum of america Air Drive, and have been utilized in each fight space and extensively within the Pacific Theater.

The airplane crashed through the raid. 4 of the airmen, together with McCook, Carlin and Burke, have been killed. The 2 surviving airmen have been captured by Japanese forces. The DPAA didn’t say if the fourth airman who died within the crash or if the 2 males who have been taken captive have been accounted for. 

McCook, Carlin and Burke’s stays weren’t recovered after World Struggle II ended. All three have been declared lacking in motion.
